And he came near and kissed him; and he smelled the smell of his clothing, and blessed him and said:
"Surely, the smell of my son
Is like the smell of a field
Which the LORD has blessed" (Gen.27:27).
Our text above suggests that there is a smell we wear that attracts friendships, luck, fortune, people, and favor to us, even in the most seemingly impossible situations. By extension, it implies that there is also a smell that could repel luck and attraction, regardless of how much attractive and inviting a person looks, physically. Since the spiritual controls the physical, then , whatever has been ordained by divine orchestration will eventually come to pass at the right time even in the most unlikely and impossible situation.
A case close to the above illustration is the story of David. When it was time for God to showcase him , his location and profession at that time betrayed the glory ahead of him. A mere shepherd boy practically staying in the field .However, because it has been ordained by heavens that he would reign and rule as a king, all other physical appearances were set aside, much as the older brothers were bypassed when the time was ripe.
Between Jacob and Esau, a word came to their mother earlier in Gen.25:23 thus "... and the older shall serve the younger." From that moment onward, the word kept hanging in the air until the time of its fulfillment came.And for that word to be activated, a human agent was needed. Rebekah was readily available to see to a logical end, the scheme she started. She played her role so well that the younger was well prepared and positioned to take the blessing.
In retrospect, Esau selling his birthright to Jacob in Gen.25:33-34, strengthened the spiritual seal of the earlier divine pronouncement . Even though he "sought it diligently with tears" (Her.12:17), later, it was rather too late !
There's no gainsaying the fact that Jacob in the guise of 'stealing' his brother's blessings improvised, disguised, and pretended as 'he' that was genuinely to be blessed , yet, the fact remains that everything evolved in perfect sequence till the end.
Isaac being an old man at this time was more moved to bless Jacob simply because of the 'smell', beyond his eating the savory meal Jacob prepared for him. And the contents of the prayers revolved around the smell so much so that it was symbolically likened to a field the LORD has blessed.
From that moment onward, amidst trials and challenges, Jacob ran with the blessing. Hugging the mandate close to his chest, he was on the move. And unstoppable, too.
Beloved, what type of smell are you wearing?
Prayers:
Father, I pray that You cause my smell to be blessed. My smell as from today shall attract divine blessings and favor into my life.
LORD, give me and my household of the dew of heaven and the fatness of the earth and plenty of grain and wine.
LORD, eradicate all foul odors repelling favor and mercy in my life. Amen !
