"...and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight" (Num.13:33).
To say the above statement was made by elders and leaders commissioned by God to lead His people to their place of rest and destiny is absurd, would be an understatement . It is disgusting, disappointing and above all, an aberration to the person of God.
With no iota of doubt, these dissident 'heads' left out the 'God Factor' in their God-given mandate and assignment. They relied on their human reasoning and judgement to draw a shameful and embarrassing conclusion of who they really were. Scared to the marrow by the mere sight of the giants, their minds went blank of 1Sam.2:9 that "by strength shall no man prevail".
Invariably, they incurred the wrath of God upon themselves and the innocent young ones. They killed the morale of the entire camp and their followers. It is unthinkable of humans to compare themselves with lesser beings, much less like grasshoppers! Leaders and head of tribes at that.
Within the circle of these ten awful leaders were two other encouragers: Joshua and Caleb, who were resilient . But for these two courageous men of purpose, the journey to the promised land would have been a complete mirage, for the entire nation of Israel.
Our poser today is: what type of leaders are 'we' within our spheres of influence? Encourager? Discourager? A grasshopper leader or an eagle leader? May God help us. Amen.
LORD, I receive the grace to soar higher and higher as a leader in whatever capacity You place me.
I refuse to operate at the grasshopper level . I shall mount up wings like the eagle and do exploits for You.
No matter the giants on the way, I will reach my goal.
I shall NOT discourage anyone in the sphere of my influence. And the spirit of grasshopper operating in a failed group, nation, or generation, shall have NO place in my calling. Amen.
