"But I discipline my body and bring it to subjection, lest, when I have preached to others, I myself should become disqualified" (1 Cor.9:27).
To be disqualified means to be declared ineligible for an office, activity, or competition, because of an offense or infringement.
For someone to be disqualified, it means such a person must have made an effort, and signified his or her intention to participate in a race or competition. But after a scrutiny by the umpires, he or she is adjudged NOT qualified , for violating the laid down rules or procedures.
This implies that whoever did not make any effort in the first place, has nothing at stake and hence, has nothing to lose.
Thinking of the pains of 'wasted' preparation and dashed hope could be traumatic, (the 10 virgins).
Essentially, we need to brace up, identify, and work on those areas of weaknesses in our lives that could jeopardize our efforts at getting a pat on the back for a well job done, here and in the hereafter. May God help us !
