Text: "You shall dwell in the land of Goshen, and you shall be near to me, you and your children, your children's children, your flocks and your herds, and all that you have. There i will provide for you, lest you and your household, and all that you have, come to poverty; for there are still five years of famine."(Gen.45:10-11).

Introduction:
Joseph's enstranged brothers were to meet and reconcile with him, as orchestrated by fate, about twenty-two years after the inglorious separation. As of this time, by sheer providence, he, (Joseph) had risen to the post of a Prime Minister in his new found home in the state of Egypt. It was two years into the famine, that would last seven years. It was his personal resolve to settle them in Goshen so life might be comfortable for them, and also that they may be near to him.
By the way, Goshen was a unique place in Egypt. So unique, probably because of its perculair nature and the circumstances surrounding its formation. Essentially, Goshen is a safe land of plenty and comfort. It simply means "pouring forth."
Summarily, Goshen is:
A reserved place.
A place that flourished in the time of famine.
A land far from poverty.
A land flowing with constant supply .
Glory In Egypt
Growing up with his brothers under his father's roof as a young boy, God used Joseph's dreams as a lens to viewing the greatness he would attain in his future life. Whichever way the greatness would come to be, was not included in the packaged dreams, anyway. Nevertheless, they were dreams that unsettled his older brothers, "and his brothers envied him" (Gen.37:11), and attracted his father's rebuke, who, by his age and experience, knew better, the evil in the 'hearts of men'. For a God that works in a way no one can explain, when the time came for the manifestation of these dreams, He used the same blood brothers to sell him to stranger merchants. He was transported free to a land entirely unknown to him. The carefree brothers later turned around to feign his death by a wild animal, to their father. To Israel, it was the end of an era on receiving the most heart-breaking news of his life...Interestingly, a little over two decades after their ungodly and heartless act, here they were standing before their 'supposedly' dead brother. Rather than paying them back in their coin, [unalloyed forgiveness],  he had a word- good news at that, for them to bear for their father, with a strong instruction to bring his father to the palace, "so you shall tell my father of all my glory in Egypt, and of all that you have seen; and you shall hurry and bring my father down here." (Gen.45:13). It probably was a news that was more shocking and unbelivable, to Israel, than the purported news of the demise of young Joseph, years before, "and Jacob's heart stood still, because he did not believe them." (Gen.45:26).
The Settlement In Goshen:
Joseph's brothers' proposed settlement in Egypt, at his invitation, left them with their hearts in their mouths, moreso pondering over the events of years before now when they sold him to slavery . Was he going to inflict vengeance on them? Was he playing pranks on them? These and many other thoughts raced their minds as he instructed them with a royal fiat, " hurry and go up to my father, and say to him, thus says your son Joseph: God has made me lord of all Egypt; come down to me do not tarry." (Gen.45:9). However, Joseph chose not to be vindictive. He looked the other way, overlooked and forgave all their shortcomings, and took it as 'one of those things.' With the passage of time, they found themselves occupying this special part of Egypt, on his orders, being the one at the helm of affairs in the state of Egypt.
The meeting at Goshen, especially between Jospeh and Israel, his father was not without honor and emotional outbursts, "so Joseph made ready his chariot and went up to Goshen to meet his father Israel; and presented himself to him, and fell on his neck and wept on his neck a good while" (Gen.47:29).
